Ein besonderes Feature von WordPress ist die Möglichkeit für Entwickler eigene Erweiterungen, so genannte „Plugins“ zu programmieren und auf einer Art Marketplace anzubieten. Von den „Plugins“ existieren weltweit rund 60.000 Programme im offiziellen Plugin-Verzeichnis und ständig kommen neue hinzu.

Die  „Plugins“ laufen in einer Basisvariante kostenfrei, Premium Funktionen müssen jedoch gegen eine monatliche oder jährliche ABO-Gebühr an den Entwickler freigeschaltet werden. An dieser Stelle ist ein Lizenzmanagement erforderlich.

WordPress Plugins unterscheiden sich von Divi-Modulen oder Extensions !

Hier finden Sie eine Liste von Basis-Plugins, die ich vorhalte, teste und zum Teil einsetze. Meine Website ist eine Art experimentelles Labor, in dem ich WordPress Plugins und Divi Extensions teste, derzeit rund 30. Bei meinen Kunden sind in der Regel 10-15 Plugins installiert, davon rund die Hälfte für technische Sicherheit.

In der Regel sind < 10 installierte Plugins pro WordPress sehr gut, zwischen 10 und 15 gut, alles darüber hinaus wird – vor allem aus Sicherheitsgründen – problematisch.
